Bones Season Premiere

It’s been such a long, LONG wait for the season premiere of Bones because of Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy – Congratulations on your baby boy – but last night our wait ended. We’ve jumped forward about five months in time, Bones and Booth are now a couple struggling with the things normal couples do: Where do we spend the night? Where do we live after the baby is born? Should we move in together? But the biggest change is Bones (no pun intended) herself.

Pregnancy seems to have softened her in many ways; she even tells Booth “I love you too”. For me the most poignant moment, and a totally unexpected one was during the comedic height of the episode when Booth comes to rescue Bones because she’s fallen and can’t get up. He asks her why she called him instead of security and do you know what she said? “I just thought of you.” I mean, wow! This is an emotionally open Bones like we’ve never seen before. I think I like it. Let’s see how I feel when the Awww wears off though before I commit to that.

As much as I like the direction the characters have taken, I’m also a little afraid for the show. Afraid that this might be the beginning of the end for the series. I mean, can anyone name a TV show that enjoyed sustained success after the will they/won’t they couple got together? From I Dream of Jeanie to Frasier, I can’t think of a single one. But for now, happy thoughts, because Thursday nights now has more than just The Mentalist to entertain us.

Speaking of Patrick Jane and crew, did you watch last night? Tell me you watched because Jane got confirmation. Red John Lives.

And that’s my 2¢ for today.
