NCIS Season Premiere

They timed the premiere to go back over and cover all the time since the hiatus. Clever. When we open all we know is that Tony has been keeping secrets and has been shot. Don’t worry though, he’s ok. He just doesn’t remember what happened. There’s an NCIS badge on scene though and lots of blood. The current theory is that Tony might have killed another NCIS agent. Unless that person is dirty I don’t think Tony did it. Ah, good plan. When in doubt, go back to the beginning – it’s also useful for an audience who is probably scratching their heads trying to figure out when they missed things. Oh, and congratulations to Ziva who is now a full-fledged NCIS agent.

When a team is close the way Gibbs and company are, who do you think it hurts more when secrets are involved, the one lied to or the liar? You could argue that it’s part of the job and so would happen sometimes, but logic and feelings aren’t always friends.

Last season, Levin (Alimi Ballard) was killed by P2P. Apparently though he had a secret, there was a microchip in his arm. EJ removed secretly and has since dropped off the grid. The team thinks that it might have something to do with Tony’s secret assignment. They’re going along trying to put the pieces together while simultaneously trying to figure out what he’s involved in. They can’t help themselves; after all, what if he needs help. It turns out more people have those microchips embedded in their forearms. Even with more questions than answers, this team will piece it together.

Totally random guest appearance: Scott Wolf, FBI, is looking to investigate Tony. Gibbs of course blocks him. I just need to sidetrack for a minute here. NCIS, which is entering its ninth season, is still blessed with creative ideas and really great writing. Not to mention a cast that has a fantastic synergy. It’s not my favourite show on television but it’s always good entertainment.

Back to those microchips. They’re RFIDs – access chips – and there are eight of them. Two people who had them are now dead and the PTBs think EJ is working with someone on the side, to sell the chips, that she’s a traitor. That definitely doesn’t add up for me. Oh, Cade (the big guy from her team) has disappeared too.

Tony found EJ and after they were both shot at he does the smartest thing possible since taking on this dangerous assignment. He went to Gibbs for help. He went to his team.

In the meantime, a doctor is trying to help Tony piece everything together and Scott Wolf FBI guy just barges in. That is totally offside. Something is not right there. If I didn’t think it before, I definitely do now. Scott Wolf is up to no good.

There are three types of blood in the alley where the team found Tony (thanks to Cade reaching out to Abby and the team going to help). One is Tony’s and though it takes some time they confirm that the two other types are Cade’s – who is dead and the bad guy tried to make it look like Tony did it – and EJ’s, who is still missing as of the end of the episode.

I don’t like this new SecNav. There’s more than a little bit fishy about him. He’s got something going on with this Phantom 8 leader (which is where the microchips came from). It’s also what Scott Wolf is a part of and since they’re trying to sell the two microchips to terrorists, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they’re not good guys. Which means Gibbs and his team will hunt them down and see that they get what they deserve. And thanks to the late, great Mike Franks (and his file boxes) Gibbs has information and a place to start.

All in all a good solid start to the season. NCIS Los Angeles is next.

  1. There are tons of good tv shows to choose from to say it’s the best. No matter what is said though, there is no doubt that this show ranks in the top 10 of all of them. Yes, there are shows that are a bit older but this one still has charm. There is comedy, humor, and a little darkness, easily moving it up to the top. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

  2. Are you guys smokin’ it? There was no continuity from last season to new. Its time to crack down on the FBI issues, Gibbs will be the only one to untangle this mess.

    • I can’t say I disagree with your assessment. I’ve tuned in the last couple of weeks hoping for something about Phantom 8 or at least some link to last season, especially when they hyped Lily Tomlin’s appearance but so far no dice. Grr. I feel about it the same way I felt about the third Xmen movie. It was good (fine, it was ok) but it still wasn’t what I was promised so I’m not one hundred percent satisfied.
